Former Manchester United Football Club head coach Erik Ten Hag has taken a cheeky jab at Cristiano Ronaldo while commenting on the Portuguese superstar’s second run at the club.
He made this comment after his Bayer Leverkusen side lost 2-0 to Chelsea in a pre-season friendly game at Stamford Bridge that had new signing Estevao score for Chelsea.
In an interview circulating on social media, Ten Hag was captured stating that Ronaldo was never the problem at Manchester United despite an acrimonious fallout between Ten Hag and the former Real Madrid player in the Dutch coach’s first season in charge at the Red Devils while highlighting the club’s trophy haul after Ronaldo’s exit.
“He-Cristiano Ronaldo-was never the problem and I think that’s the past. It’s the past, after that we won two trophies at Manchester United. I wish him all the best for the future” Ten Hag said.

Under Ten Hag, Man United won the Carabao Cup and the Emirates FA Cup before he was replaced midway in the 2024-2025 season with Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim. Scroll down to watch interview
