Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has seemingly indicated that referee Chris Kavanagh played a role in his dreadful penalty miss against Fulham.

The Portuguese star had the chance to put Man United ahead in the English Premier League game at Craven Cottage but ended up blazing his penalty attempt over the bar after Mason Mount was handed a controversial penalty kick.

In the lead up to his attempt, Fernandes, who is prolific from the penalty spot, bumped into Kavanagh while stepping back to effect the kick leading to an “interesting” conversation before Fernandes missed his penalty kick.

Man United ended drawing 1-1 against Fulham and in the post-game interview, Fernandes highlighted Kavanagh’s role in the penalty kick.

“As a penalty-taker, you have your own routines, your own things that you do. It upset me because the referee didn’t apologise. That is what triggered me in that moment, but that’s not the excuse for missing the penalty. I had a very bad hit on the ball. I put my foot too under the ball and that’s why it ended up going over the bar” Fernandes said to Sky Sports.
