Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has reaffirmed the Association’s zero-tolerance stance on betting in domestic football, declaring that no betting company is licensed to place odds on the Ghana Premier League or any other local competition.
Addressing delegates at the 31st Ordinary Congress of the GFA in Prampram, Okraku warned that the rise in sports betting globally has increased the risk of match manipulation and illegal syndicates infiltrating the game.
“The global surge in sports betting has unfortunately exposed our game to the threat of match manipulation and illegal syndicates. Ghana is not immune.
However, the GFA has taken a bold stand; no betting company has been licensed by the FA to place odds on domestic leagues,” Okraku said.
The GFA President disclosed that legal proceedings are underway, both in Ghana and abroad, against companies unlawfully placing bets on domestic competitions.
“Just like announced during our Congress 12 months ago, we are pursuing legal action locally and internationally against companies that unlawfully take bets on our leagues.
Our legal department is working closely with reputable legal firms to confront these activities head-on. Let us be very clear: no betting company is allowed to take bets on our domestic competitions,”
The GFA maintains that these steps are necessary to protect the integrity of Ghanaian football and shield it from external influences that threaten fair play.
