Head coach of Sudan’s National Men’s Football Team, James Kwesi Appiah, has stated that his team will not let its fans down as its brilliant run in this year’s CHAN continues.

Sudan shockingly topped Group D despite assembling just four days prior to the tournament; Sudan hammered Nigeria 4-0, drew 1-1 with Congo and drew goalless with defending champions Senegal to progress to the quarterfinals.

Speaking after the game against Senegal, the former Ghana head coach acknowledged the support for his team and promised to not let the fans down as Sudan prepare to take on Algeria in the quarterfinals on Saturday, August 23.

“The people of Zanzibar have been fantastic. We wouldn’t like to let them down in terms of the quality of our football.”

“The Zanzibar people have similarities with our Sudanese people. They speak Arabic, so there was a bond from the time we came into the city. To our fans across the world, we will not let you down” Appiah said.

The CHAN is a continental championship that is eligible to players who compete in their national leagues on the African continent.
