Ghana sprinter Ibrahim Fuseini has missed out on qualifying to the semifinals of the 2025 World Athletics Championship in Tokyo, Japan.
Fuseini finished sixth in his heat in the Men’s 200 Metre event in a time of 20.66 seconds; Fuseini’s heat was the penultimate of the six races in the preliminary round.
Jamaica’s Bryan Levell won the heat in a time of 19.84 seconds with Zimbabwe’s Makanakaishe Charambia finishing in second place in a time of 20.06 seconds.
Sprint sensation Gout Gout recorded a time of 20.23 seconds to finish in third place and pick up the last automatic qualification spot to the semifinals.
The Australian sprinter who is of Sudanese descent, is widely regarded as the next big thing in the sprint events; he won silver at the 2024 World Under 20 Championships in Lima, Peru.

Fuseini’s failure to qualify to the semifinals means that Ghana has missed out on a spot in the finals of the individual sprint events following similar misses from Alex Amankwah, Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu.

The focus is now on Ghana’s 4×100 Men’s Relay competition.
