Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed that new goalkeeper signing Senne Lammens won’t start in the Red Devils’ crunch league tie against city rivals Manchester City on Sunday, September 14 at 15:30 GMT. Turkey’s Altay Bayindir will start in goal against City barring unforeseen circumstances.
Amorim made this announcement while addressing the media ahead of the big clash this weekend at the Etihad Stadium and talked about the club’s latest transfer decision to move goalkeeper Andre Onana to Trabzonspor.
Onana’s season-loan long move to Trabzonspor was confirmed on Thursday, September 11 with the Cameroon international expected to see out the 2025-2026 season with the Turkish Super League team.
Trabzonspor will cover Onana’s wages and though Amorim acknowledged Onana’s qualities as a goalkeeper, he stressed the need for a change.
“I think we understood that this needed a change and sometimes it is hard to point out why.”

“Sometimes it is the moment, the bad luck in some moments. I wish the best for Andre Onana. He was really good at working and trying to help the players, but sometimes you can have all the quality in the world but you need a change” he said.

Man United have a win, a draw and a loss in three league games but have crashed out of the Carabao Cup after losing 12-11 to Grimsby Town on penalties.

Onana played his only game for Man United this season in the loss and made a mistake that directly led to Grimsby’s second goal.
