The emotions got the better of me- Hugo Ekitike reacts to dismissal from Carabao Cup Game

Liverpool French forward Hugo Ekitike has reacted to his dismissal from Liverpool’s win over Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

The Reds beat the Saints 2-1 at Anfield to qualify to the next round of the competition with Liverpool’s recently signed forwards Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike scoring the goals in the win.

However, after coming off the bench to score the winning goal in the 85th minute off an unselfish play from Federico Chiesa, Ekitike got dismissed from the game for taking off his shirt to celebrate the goal that attracted a second yellow card.

His actions angered Liverpool head coach Arne Slot who branded Ekitike’s act as stupid in every sense and the French player has reacted to his dismissal stating, (Click highlighted text to read full story)

“I was so excited tonight to help the team achieve another victory here in our home for my first Carabao Cup match. The emotion got the better of me tonight.”

“My apologies to all the Red family. Thanks to the fans who always support us and to my teammates for securing this victory” Ekitike posted on social media.

Ekitike will miss Liverpool’s league game against Crystal Palace on Saturday, September 27 due to the dismissal.
