Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has pinned his team’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United on Robert Sanchez’s red card three minutes into the feisty game.

Chelsea goalkeeper Sanchez clattered into Man United striker Bryan Mbeumo early in the contest and was shown a straight red card that forced Maresca to make three substitutions including replacing playmaker Cole Palmer.

Speaking on the loss at a presser, Maresca highlighted how his team improved after Man United midfielder Casemiro exited the game after picking up his second yellow card. Casemiro scored Man United’s second goal 13 minutes earlier in the game.

“The red card changed the game after three minutes. After the red card for them, 10 v 10, it changed the game for us. We needed to start in a better way.”

“We need to start the game better. We cannot concede a red card at Old Trafford after three minutes” Maresca said according to the BBC.

Losing to Man United marks Chelsea’s third game in a row in all competitions without a win.
