Abdul Karim Zito, head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, says his club will work around missing out on the services of striker Kwame Opoku.

The striker has been ruled for reportedly six weeks due to an ankle injury; he picked up the injury in Kotoko’s 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea in the opening game of the 2025-2026 Ghana Premier League season. Opoku played 20 minutes but was forced off due to the injury.

Speaking in the pre-game presser ahead of Kotoko’s CAF Confederation Cup first leg tie against Kwara United of Nigeria, Karim Zito indicated that Kotoko had a plan to deal Opoku’s absence.

“Seriously, Opoku’s absence will affect me. It [his absence] gave me another clue; if Opoku is not in the game, what am I going to do to achieve or to make amendments at his position and they were able to make it and it worked to perfection [against Berekum Chelsea].”

“There’s a plus about it [Opoku’s absence] and there’s negative. It has also helped me to think” Zito said.

Kotoko take on Kwara on Sunday, September 21 at 15:00 GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium.
