Mayor of Boston, Michelle Wu, has responded to US President Donald Trump over the latter’s threat to take 2026 FIFA World Cup games scheduled to be played in the city away.

President Trump delivered this threat after a violent incident in the city had police vehicles attacked by a group of people. One police car was burnt in the clashes.

“We can take them [the World Cup games] away. I love the people of Boston…but the Mayor is not good. If I feel there’s unsafe conditions, I would call Gianni [Infantino-President of FIFA]…and I would say let’s move it to another location. He wouldn’t love to do it, but he’d do it” President Trump said in response to the incident according to Fox News.

On the other hand, Michelle Wu who is a Democrat, sounded a positive tone regarding the city’s readiness to host World Cup games.

“Boston is honored and excited to host World Cup matches, and we look forward to welcoming fans from around the world to our beautiful city, the cradle of liberty and city of champions” Wu said in a statement according to Fox News Digital.
