Former Chelsea and West Ham United manager Graham Potter has been appointed as the head coach of Sweden’s National Men’s Football Team.

Potter has accepted the position in the wake of Jon Dahl Tomasson’s sacking after overseeing a poor run by Sweden in the European qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Under Tomasson, Sweden lost 2-1 to Switzerland and lost 1-0 to Kosovo that have heavily affected Sweden’s chances of qualifying to next year’s World Cup.

Potter had a brilliant start to his managerial career in Sweden with Ostersund by leading the club to three straight promotions and a run to the Europa League group stage and the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager is happy to back in Sweden.

“I am very humbled by the assignment, but also incredibly inspired. Sweden has fantastic players who deliver in the world’s best leagues during the weeks.”

“My job will be to create the conditions so that we as a team deliver at the highest level to take Sweden to the World Cup next summer” Potter said according to BBC.

Sweden next take on Switzerland and Slovenia on November 15 and 18 respectively.
