South Africa’s National Men’s Football Team head coach Hugo Broos says the nation’s qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup lies outside its control.

He made this comment after South Africa drew goalless against Zimbabwe when the Bafana Bafana needed a win to match group leaders Benin in points.

However, the result keeps South Africa in second place with 15 and trail Benin by two points ahead of the final round of qualification games on Tuesday, October 14.

South Africa host Rwanda while Nigeria host Benin on Tuesday with Nigeria, Benin and South Africa all in contention to qualify to next year’s World Cup in Mexico, Canada and the United States of America.

Bafana Bafana had three points deducted from its tally by FIFA for fielding an unqualified player and after failing to beat Zimbabwe, Hugo Broos believes that South Africa’s qualification destiny is outside the team’s control.

“We don’t have it in our own hands anymore, we have to try again to be ready for the game of Tuesday and try to win it and then see what happens. It’s still possible but it becomes more difficult.”

“We have to try to go on believing that maybe with a little miracle we can still qualify on Tuesday” Hugo Broos said to SABC Sport.
