Peter Lamptey, the legendary “Goal Thief” of Ghana football is dead. The reputed goal scorer who played for Accra Great Olympics, Hearts of Oak and the Black Stars, died in the early hours of October 9 after a short illness.
Peter was a prominent member of the famous “fearsome fivesome” of Accra Hearts comprising Mohammed Polo, Anas Seidu, Robert Hammond and Mama Acquah in the 70s.
He was the first recipient of the SWAG goal king award in 1973. Scoring 21 of the 53 goals recorded by Accra Hearts to win the 18 club league.
Peter’s amazing partnership with Mohammèd Polo became the talking point in football circles for a long time.
