South Africa forward Lyles Foster has urged South Africa football fans to not be despondent because there is a lot to play for.
He said this ahead of South Africa’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on Tuesday, October 14 at 16:00 GMT in the final round of qualifiers.
South Africa head into the game needing a win over Rwanda and also needing Nigeria to beat Benin to qualify to next year’s World Cup. All three nations are in contention for the sole automatic qualification slot in the group.
The Bafana Bafana suffered a three point and three goal deduction by FIFA for fielding an unqualified player in a qualifier against Lesotho.
South Africa missed a big opportunity in its goalless draw with Zimbabwe in the game prior but Foster is urging Bafana Bafana fans not to give up on the team’s 2026 World Cup qualification hopes.

“No reason to feel despondent. If there’s nothing to play or there’s no chance, I’d understand. There’s still so much to play for so there’s no reason at all to be despondent.”

“I think this is probably the most important one so we ask the supporters to come out in their numbers” Foster said to SuperSport.
