2025 KIRIN Cup: We need to improve- Otto Addo after losing to Japan

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has called for his team to improve its performance in the wake of recording a loss to Japan.

Ghana lost 2-0 to Japan in this year’s KIRIN Challenge Cup ahead of a clash against South Korea on Tuesday, November 18.

The loss was overshadowed by the injury to Ghana midfielder Francis Abu who suffered what looked like a broken leg that had Abu’s Toulouse FC pledge their support to aid his recovery while Otto Addo described the injury as a serious one but called for an improved performance from his team. “It’s a deserved win for Japan. We have a lot of learning ahead of us and we need to improve.”

“I think there are a lot of learnings; we really need to learn how to get out of high pressing. We need to hold the ball better upfront and be better on second balls especially when we have to play [the ball] long” Otto Addo said.

Games against Japan and South Korea are part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
