Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has stated that he wished Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid’s designated penalty taker, would have taken the second penalty for the team in a La Liga game against Valencia.
Alonso shared this to the club’s media after Real’s 4-0 win over Valencia that had Mbappe score twice including a converted penalty kick, with Alvaro Carreras and Jude Bellingham adding on to the goals.
However, Madrid had another penalty but Vinicus Jr’s attempt in the 43rd minute was saved and Xabi Alonso stated that he wished Mbappe had taken the second penalty too.
“We assign the penalty takers and Kylian [Mbappe] is the first taker. Then they make decisions. I like them to take penalties because it’s a good opportunity.”

“Kylian scored the first one and I would have liked him to score the second one too. It’s no big deal. Kylian is still the first taker.

This development comes on the back of Vinicius Jr’s angry reaction to being taken off in the El Clasico in the 72nd minute; he later apologized for the act. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
