Nigeria’s National Men’s Football Team captain Wilfred Ndidi says his team is very motivated to beat Tunisia in their 2025 AFCON clash after suffering a shock loss and elimination to the Carthage Eagles at the 2021 edition.

The 2021 AFCON had the Super Eagles as heavy favourites after they dominated the group stage winning all three games while scoring six goals and conceding once.

However, Nigeria got shocked at the Round of 16 stage when Tunisia beat them 1-0 thanks to a Youssef Msakni goal to eliminate them.

Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s clash with Tunisia on Saturday, December 27 at 20:00 GMT at the ongoing 2025 AFCON, Ndidi says the Super Eagles are super motivated to correct that wrong.

“It was a painful loss in 2021. We don’t want to think about what happened, we just want to face this one because it is a new team, good players group.”

“It gives us more confidence and more motivation. We talk about it and it’s not going to happen twice, hopefully” Ndidi said according to ESPN.
