Liverpool are anxiously awaiting the outcome of scans on Alexander Isak after the striker suffered a worrying lower-leg injury during Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League victory over Tottenham.

The Swedish forward, introduced from the bench, made an immediate impact by breaking the deadlock for Arne Slot’s side. However, moments after getting his shot away, Isak was caught by Micky van de Ven and was unable to continue, raising fears of a serious setback.

The 26-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Newcastle in a record £125 million deal in September, is scheduled to undergo MRI scans on Sunday to determine the severity of the injury and how long he could be sidelined.

Speaking after the match, Slot admitted concern over the situation.

“We’ll have to wait and see,” he said. “But if a player scores and then gets injured and doesn’t try to come back on the pitch, that’s usually not a good thing.

Liverpool will be hoping for positive news ahead of a demanding run of fixtures, with Slot expected to provide an update when he faces the media on Tuesday.
