Sports Fund Bill needs to be supported- Berekum West MP

Berekum West Member of Parliament, Dickson Kyere-Duah

Member of Parliament for the Berekum West Constituency, Dickson Kyere-Duah, has called on all stakeholders to support the Sports Fund Bill.

The Ghana Sports Fund Bill was passed by the Parliament of Ghana on Thursday, December 18 and seeks to provide sustainable stream of funding to sports disciplines. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Speaking on the floor of Parliament while debating the passage of the bill, the former sports journalist, called for the bill to be supported to fully tap into the great benefits of sports in the country.

He referenced similar initiatives like the GETFund and National Health Insurance Scheme that has provided sustainable funding to the education and health sectors.

“It is therefore important that this bill, which seeks to provide sustainable funding for the development of sports as well as provide for sports to be used as a vehicle for the development of this country, to be supported.”

“It is therefore important that as a country once and for all, we have a mechanism to get sustainable funding. So when…we get sustainable funding, there will be opportunities for all sectors, all corners of the country to get their fair share of the infrastructure development” Kyere-Duah said.

Dickson Kyere-Duah also serves as the Chairman of the Football Stakeholders Committee at the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
