Morocco’s National Men’s Football Team head coach Walid Regragui says he is not afraid of getting sacked should his team fail to qualify to the 2025 AFCON.
Morocco is hosting the continental championship and is aiming to make it to the AFCON final game for the first time since 2004.
Following Morocco’s qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup semifinals, the Atlas Lions crashed out of the 2023 AFCON in the first round and are under tremendous pressure to win the title.
Speaking in a presser ahead of Morocco’s 2025 AFCON semifinal clash against Nigeria on Wednesday, January 14, Regragui was asked about the possibility of getting sacked should Morocco lose the tie to which Regragui responded by stating,
“Every coach knows he must be prepared for the sack [if he doesn’t win]… but I’m not afraid [of getting sacked].

Morocco are yet to lose five games into the competition but have largely underperformed in their games bar the 2-0 win over Cameroon in the quarterfinals.

Nigeria play against Morocco without the services of captain Wilfred Ndidi who is suspended for the clash over accumulation of yellow cards. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
