President of world football governing body, FIFA, Gianni Infantino, has strongly condemned the actions of Senegal players and some fans of the West African country in the 2025 AFCON final game.
The recently concluded 2025 AFCON had Senegal beat Morocco 1-0 with the winning goal coming in extra time via Pape Gueye’s brilliant strike.
However, in the lead up to the goal Senegal almost abandoned the game after a penalty was called for Morocco late in the game.
Senegal walked off the pitch in protest as fights broke out in the stands involving Senegal fans but the players got convinced by veteran forward Sadio Mane to return to complete the game.
Calm was restored but Brahim Diaz’s penalty attempt was easily save by Edouard Mendy forcing the game to extra time. Senegal went on to win its second AFCON title.

In a statement according to AFP, the FIFA President who watched the game in Rabat, wasn’t impressed with the actions of Senegal and stated that,

“We strongly condemn the behaviour of some ‘supporters’ as well as some Senegalese players and technical staff members. It is unacceptable to leave the field of play in this manner, and equally, violence cannot be tolerated in our sport, it is simply not right.”
