Anthony Joshua’s driver has been charged by Nigerian authorities following a road crash that injured the former heavyweight champion and claimed the lives of two members of his team.

Police confirmed that Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was charged at the Sagamu Magistrate Court in Ogun State on Friday.

According to police sources, Mr Kayode faces four charges, including causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid driver’s licence.

The incident occurred on Monday on a highway near Sagamu, close to Lagos, when the vehicle transporting Joshua and members of his entourage collided with a stationary truck.

Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

The 36-year-old boxer was taken to hospital with injuries but was discharged on Wednesday after receiving treatment.

The case has been adjourned until 20 January, with further proceedings expected when the court reconvenes.

Joshua has not yet made a public statement following the incident.
