Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku has praised the “Catch Them Young Refereeing” initiative as the most impactful policy he has introduced since assuming office.

Over the past five years, the programme has focused on identifying, educating, and training young talents aged between 13 and 16, preparing them to officiate at both juvenile and senior levels of football.

In an interview with Metro Sports, Kurt Okraku emphasized the importance of sustained investment in the initiative, stressing the need to secure resources and provide continuous training for referees at all levels.

“Referees sometimes having bad calls. I know about referees having good calls. I know about the unquenchable desire of the younger folks to excel.

“But it’s the reason why I rolled out this Catch Them Young Refereeing Strategy a few years ago. I knew what it will give to Ghana football.

“Perhaps one of the best gifts I have given to the Ghanaian game since I took office. I think that there’s a need for more investment in their strategy.

“We need to find the resources to support the kids especially in trainings. I also think that there will be a need for more training opportunities even for the much more experienced ones.” He said.

The GFA believes development and recognition of these young referees are essential steps in ensuring the continued growth and excellence of refereeing in Ghana.
