Liverpool FC captain Virgil Van Dijk says Liverpool’s win over Olympique Marseille in France in the UEFA Champions League group stage was far from easy.
He said this to TNT Sports after Liverpool scored a 3-0 win over Marseille with Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo getting on the score sheet.
The game had Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah start for Liverpool mere days after his campaign at the 2025 AFCON came to an end. Egypt finished in fourth place in the tournament with Salah failing to score in the penalty shootout.
The win over Marseille represented a big change for the Reds who had endured a string of drawn results and Van Dijk talked more about this in his post-game presser by stating that,

“It’s always difficult to play against De Zerbi’s team because if you’re not front-footed, then they can play out pretty easily. They keep on playing and taking a risk. We exploited the space well and I think the performance is good.”

“We always keep saying it after a win or a good result. Fully focus on recovery now and then we go to Bournemouth and they’re hard to beat. We have to be more than ready.”
