President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has congratulated the West African country’s National Men’s Football Team on their qualification to the final of the 2025 AFCON.
Senegal booked its place in the final after securing a hard fought 1-0 win over Egypt with star player Sadio Mane scoring the winning goal in the 78th minute.
In a largely drab game that had few chances created, Mane’s fine strike from outside the penalty box gave Senegal the breakthrough and win.
After picking a second yellow card in the knockout stages of the competition, Senegal defender Khalidou Koulibaly won’t compete in the final game on Sunday, January 18.
Reacting to the win that puts the Teranga Lions in position to win a second AFCON title, President Faye praised the team and called on the players to secure the title.

“I congratulate our Lions…continue with the same clarity, the same discipline, and the same team spirit, to offer Senegal a new star and pride shared the entire Nation” a section of his statement read on his official X page.
