President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, has congratulated the West African country’s National Men’s Football Team on their qualification to the final of the 2025 AFCON.

Senegal booked its place in the final after securing a hard fought 1-0 win over Egypt with star player Sadio Mane scoring the winning goal in the 78th minute.

In a largely drab game that had few chances created, Mane’s fine strike from outside the penalty box gave Senegal the breakthrough and win.

After picking a second yellow card in the knockout stages of the competition, Senegal defender Khalidou Koulibaly won’t compete in the final game on Sunday, January 18.

Reacting to the win that puts the Teranga Lions in position to win a second AFCON title, President Faye praised the team and called on the players to secure the title.

Je félicite nos Lions qui, par un match sérieux et maîtrisé, ont écarté l’Égypte et décroché leur place en finale de la Coupe d’Afrique.
