Ahead of Benfica’s UEFA Champions League playoff tie against Real Madrid on Tuesday, February 17, Benfica head coach Jose Mourinho is weary of the threat of the Spanish club.
Benfica beat Real Madrid 4-2 to qualify to the playoff stage and will host the first of two legs in Portugal with the return leg taking place at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Mourinho reveled in the dramatic win over one of his former clubs but is adopting a very cautious approach for the playoff tie.
“They are wounded. And a wounded king is dangerous. We will play the first leg with our heads, ambition and confidence. We know what we did to the kings of the Champions League” Mourinho said in a pre-game presser according to the BBC and added that

“I’ve been doing it all my life. People often think you need a certain result in the first leg for this or that reason. I say there is no definitive result.”

Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Goes and Raul Ascenio won’t feature in the game after getting red carded in the group stage win for Benfica.
