Asante Kotoko returned to winning ways with a commanding performance, defeating Young Apostles at the Wenchi Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon to revive their push for a strong finish in the Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors produced an impressive first-half showing, scoring twice within a 10-minute spell to take early control of the contest.

Kotoko wasted no time asserting their authority in the match. Johnson Oppong Owusu opened the scoring in the 6th minute, rising highest to meet Albert Amoah’s precise cross before guiding a clinical header into the left corner.

The early goal settled Kotoko, who continued to dominate possession and attack with confidence.

Ten minutes later, captain Samba O’Neil doubled the lead. His header took a deflection off a retreating defender before looping into the net, leaving the Young Apostles goalkeeper with little chance.

The quick-fire goals left Kotoko firmly in control and allowed them to dictate the tempo of the game.

Kotoko entered the match searching for a response after a difficult run of form that included a three-match winless streak and defeat in the Super Clash.

However, the Porcupine Warriors showed composure after building their early lead, managing the game effectively and limiting Young Apostles’ attacking opportunities.

Young Apostles struggled to create clear scoring chances, as Kotoko’s defence remained organised and disciplined throughout the encounter.

The victory lifts Kotoko back into the top four of the league table as they continue to chase the title race.

However, they still trail league leaders by seven points, meaning the battle at the summit remains tightly contested.

For Young Apostles, the defeat keeps them in danger of relegation. The Wenchi-based side remains precariously positioned near the drop zone and will need to start picking up points to secure their survival.

Kotoko will now shift focus to maintaining momentum in their upcoming fixtures as they push for a stronger league finish.

Young Apostles, meanwhile, must regroup quickly as they continue their fight to stay in the top flight.
