Accra Hearts of Oak were unable to build on their morale-boosting Super Clash victory over Asante Kotoko as they were held to a goalless draw by Berekum Chelsea in an engaging Ghana Premier League encounter at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon.

The result leaves the Phobians missing an opportunity to close the gap on the top of the table, as the title race continues to tighten.

Both teams started the match with attacking intent, creating several promising chances but finding it difficult to break down well-organised defences.

Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare made one of the key moments of the first half, pulling off a crucial save to deny Chelsea the opener.

At the other end, Berekum Chelsea defender Mohammed Seidu produced a vital goal-line clearance to prevent the Phobians from taking the lead.

Chelsea goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi also impressed, producing a superb reflex save to deny Mawuli Wayo as Hearts pressed for the breakthrough.

Despite Hearts showing more attacking purpose and registering more shots on target, the half ended with neither side able to convert their chances.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Hearts of Oak dominating possession and pushing forward in search of a winner.

However, Chelsea defended resolutely and managed to frustrate the Phobians’ attacking rhythm.

Hearts continued to create chances but lacked the final clinical touch in front of goal, while Chelsea remained dangerous on the counterattack without seriously troubling the Hearts defence.

The dropped points mean Hearts of Oak remain five points behind league leaders Medeama, who also dropped points after a 0-0 draw with Samartex.

For Berekum Chelsea, the point was valuable in their battle to avoid relegation. They remain 15th on the table, just three points from safety as the survival fight intensifies.

Hearts of Oak will now shift focus to their upcoming fixture against Heart of Lions, while Berekum Chelsea prepares for a crucial clash against Karela United.

Both sides will be hoping to improve their finishing and convert promising performances into vital points as the league season reaches a decisive stage.
