Officials of German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have arrived in Ghana ahead of the official launch of the BVB International Academy – Ghana, marking a major milestone in youth football development in the country.
The delegation touched down in Accra on Thursday night, February 5, 2026, at the Kotoka International Airport alongside former Borussia Dortmund player and Black Stars legend Ibrahim Tanko, whose influence and connection to the club played a key role in bringing the academy to Ghana.
The launch event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Kwae Terrace, with Ghana becoming the first African country to host an official BVB International Academy.
Speaking on the arrival of the Dortmund officials at the Kotoka International Airport, Academy Director Teddy Hiadzi expressed excitement about the historic development.

He further highlighted the pivotal role of Ibrahim Tanko in the project, describing the former Dortmund midfielder as a key figure in the partnership.

“Ibrahim Tanko is very much influential, a legend and an ambassador for Dortmund,” Hiadzi added.
The BVB International Academy–Ghana is expected to focus on elite youth development, coaching education and the transfer of Borussia Dortmund’s football philosophy to young Ghanaian talents, further strengthening Ghana’s reputation as a hub for football excellence.
The academy offers a holistic development program for boys and girls aged 6-18, with a dual focus on elite pathways and a recreational stream.
