The Executive Chairman of the 2023 African Games, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare says the reinforcement of the Black Stars’ technical bench should be a major boost for the team’s coaching setup.
His remarks follow the Ghana Football Association’s decision to strengthen the backroom staff with five seasoned professionals, including French trainer Alain Ravera and Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, who both come in as assistant coaches.
Spanish tactician Jose Daniel Martinez Alfonso has been added to improve scouting and match analysis, while Carlos Lozano Romero makes a return as physiotherapist after previously working with the squad at the 2022 World Cup.

British-born Ghanaian performance coach Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi rounds out the newly restructured technical team.
Speaking to Citi Sports at the official unveiling of Kenpong Travel and Tours’ 2026 World Cup package, Dr. Ofosu-Asare noted that the team needs more personnel to effectively manage the growing number of matches.
It should give us an advantage because I don’t know if you’ve seen the technical team of Brazil. I mean, during my time, if you look at the technical team, very renowned people behind the scene.
So, I think that beefing up the technical team should be an advantage for the Black stars because these days they play more matches and I think that they should be able to complement the efforts of Otto Addo and his team. He said.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. They will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England in Boston on June 23 and Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
