The Ghana Para Swimming Association has announced a historic milestone for para sports in Ghana, as the country will, for the first time, be represented at the World Para Swimming Series in Australia.

This breakthrough has been made possible through the leadership and dedication of the Association’s President, Farida Idriss, with two Ghanaian para swimmers — Promise Wonder Atsu Aheto and Bryan Baffour Kwadjo Akoto — set to travel to Australia for international classification and competition at the prestigious event.

The championship also serves as a qualification pathway toward the 2026 Commonwealth Games, marking an important step in Ghana’s journey toward elite international para sport participation.

Both athletes are scheduled to compete in the following events:

  • Freestyle 50m

  • Breaststroke 50m

  • Breaststroke 100m

Their participation represents a breakthrough for Ghana Para Swimming, offering the athletes the opportunity to secure international classification and potentially achieve qualification standards for future global competitions.

The Association also expressed sincere appreciation to the Ghana Olympic Committee for providing vital financial support to make the trip possible, highlighting the Committee’s continued role in the development and promotion of para sports in Ghana.

This milestone reflects strong collaboration between the Ghana Para Swimming Association, National Paralympic Committee Ghana, and the Ghana Olympic Committee — institutions united in their commitment to creating opportunities for Ghanaian para athletes to excel on the international stage.

Madam Farida Idriss played a critical role in securing this life-changing opportunity for the athletes, with her leadership, advocacy, and determination opening new pathways for the growth of para swimming in Ghana.

As the swimmers prepare to compete in Australia, Ghana stands firmly behind them, with hopes that they will achieve qualification and inspire a new generation of para athletes across the country.
