The second round of the Ankaful Maximum Security Prison Inmates League got underway on Monday with an exciting encounter that saw Block D3 secure a 3-1 victory over Block C2.

Block D3 made a bright start to the contest, opening the scoring in the 4th minute through Emmanuel Asare, who capitalised on early pressure to give his side the lead.

Block C2 responded strongly and drew level in the 29th minute, with Alex Obeng finding the back of the net just a minute before the end of the first half.

After the break, Block D3 stepped up their intensity and regained control of the match. Charles Boakye restored the lead in the 43rd minute, before Alex Obeng completed the scoring in the 48th minute, sealing a 3-1 win for D3.

The match also formed part of activities surrounding the official launch of the league, which is aimed at promoting discipline, teamwork and rehabilitation among inmates through football.

At the launch, the Central Regional Chairman of the Football Association pledged his support for the initiative and inaugurated a new Inmates Football Executive to serve for the 2025–2027 term.

The Central Regional Commander of Prisons, Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP), advised inmates to take lessons from the league and use the platform for personal development, while assuring them of the continued backing of the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service.

The Ankaful Inmates League is expected to continue in the coming weeks as various blocks battle for honours in the competition.
