Former Black Stars player and 1978 AFCON winner Willie Klutse has advised young talents heading abroad to stay disciplined and focused on their careers to prevent serious legal troubles.

His comments come after reports that former Arsenal and Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with two additional counts of rape, according to the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Klutse also stressed the importance of footballers planning for life after their playing careers.

“You have a reason why you want to play football and based on it you have travelled outside the country. Just keep your focus.

“When they advise you and you can’t take it. Why should we invest in your time and your career? So, they have to focus. They have to know why they travel, they have to know what they want out of football.

“Because football, the latest is 15 years, you are finished with football. Serious and active football, 15 years, you can’t be the same. So, they have to keep their focus and know what they want out of football” he said.

The Ghana international remains an active figure for the Black Stars, who are scheduled to face England at the upcoming World Cup group stage in the United States. Legal proceedings in the UK are ongoing.
