Black Stars forward Inaki Williams has stated that Athletic Bilbao’s win in the Copa Del Rey (Spanish Cup) could mark a turning point for the club in the 2025-2026 season.
Bilbao headed into the game ranked 11th in the league standings and winless in three games but managed to beat Valencia 2-1 at Valencia’s Mestalla in the quarterfinals of the Copa Del Rey.
Inaki Williams came off the bench in the 70th minute to score the winning goal in the 96th minute off an assist from his brother Nico Williams.
The goal was Inaki’s second in 21 games in all competitions after dealing with an abductor injury that forced him to miss two months of action.
According to cadenaser, the Bilbao captain voiced his support to under-fire head coach Ernesto Valverde after the win by stating,

“Ernesto [Valverde] is very important to Athletic Club. The dressing room is 100% behind the coach, and we can’t imagine having any other manager.”

“He deserves all our respect. We deserved a moment of joy like this, the players, the fans, and the coaching staff. The first goal that I can dedicate to my son. The season has been difficult, but what happened today could be a major turning point” Inaki said.
