Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank after less than eight months in charge of the club.
Frank’s dismissal follows Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle, after which Spurs fans booed the manager and chanted for his sacking at full-time.
The North London side currently sits 16th in the Premier League, just five points above the relegation zone, and has managed only two wins in its last 17 league matches.
The 52-year-old left Brentford in June to replace Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed despite guiding Spurs to Europa League success. However, Frank failed to win over the Tottenham faithful during a difficult spell marked by inconsistent results and off-field controversy — including criticism after being seen drinking from a coffee cup bearing the badge of rivals Arsenal.
Frank departs having won 13 of his 38 matches in charge. The defeat to Newcastle leaves him with a 26.9 per cent Premier League win rate — the lowest of any Tottenham manager in the Premier League era.
His exit means Spurs are now searching for their sixth permanent manager in seven years, since Mauricio Pochettino left the club in 2019.
Frank’s successor will inherit a side eliminated from both domestic cup competitions but still competing in the Champions League knockout stages, having secured a fourth-place finish in the league table under the Dane.
Tottenham return to action on Sunday, February 22, with a home Premier League clash against rivals Arsenal, before travelling to Fulham in their next fixture.
