FC Barcelona’s grand attempt to overturn a 4-0 deficit suffered in the first leg of the Spanish Cup (Copa Del Rey) against Atletico Madrid fell short.
Barcelona beat Atletico 3-0 in the second leg of the semifinals but failed to qualify to the finals after losing 4-3 on aggregate.
Marc Bernal scored in the game either side of Raphinha’s converted penalty but Atletico held on to avoid conceding a fourth goal.
Speaking to the club’s media, Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick, said he was proud of his team’s gallant fight despite exiting the competition.
“Obviously I am sad because we did not achieve our objective of reaching the final in Seville but we can be very proud. We had chances to score four or five goals.”

“We have given everything and that’s what I want to see. We gave more than 100% and that’s fantastic. Today everybody played with heart and it was a great performance from us but it was just not to be and we have to accept that” Flick said.
