Ghana Army and Kalibi VC Crowned Champions of CAVB Zone 3 Volleyball Club Championship, Accra 2026

All playing participants of the 2026 CAVB Zone III Volleyball Club Championship,

Ghana Army Volleyball Club and Kalibi Volleyball Club were crowned champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively at the 2026 CAVB Zone III Volleyball Club Championship, held at the Borteyman Sports Complex.

Ghana Army secured the men’s title after defeating Nigeria Customs Volleyball Club in straight sets in an exciting final witnessed by an enthusiastic home crowd in Accra.

The Ghanaian side demonstrated strong defensive organization and effective attacking play to record a 3–0 (25–21, 25–21, 25–23) victory.

Despite determined resistance from Nigeria Customs; particularly in the closely contested third set Ghana Army maintained their composure to seal a memorable triumph on home soil.

In the women’s final, Kalibi Volleyball Club also delivered a commanding performance, defeating Nigeria’s Vipers Volleyball Club in straight sets. Kalibi dominated the match with superior coordination and attacking precision, winning 3–0 (25–15, 25–16, 25–13).

Individual brilliance also stood out during the competition. Benedicta Akorli of Kalibi Volleyball Club was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the women’s category, while Imoro Alhassan of Ghana Army Volleyball Club earned the Men’s MVP award for his outstanding performances throughout the tournament.

The championship featured 32 top volleyball clubs from seven countries across West Africa, highlighting the growing competitiveness and development of the sport within the region.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Dr. Austin Luguterah, praised the success of the tournament and Ghana’s historic achievement in hosting the event.

“This is a remarkable achievement for Ghana volleyball. Hosting this event for the first time and recording historic club participation in the history of African volleyball, yet still delivering a successful tournament, is truly commendable. We cannot wait to host the entire continent of Africa in the coming years.”

The victories by Ghana Army and Kalibi Volleyball Club secured a historic double triumph for Ghana, underlining the country’s deep pool of volleyball talent and its growing dominance in the West African sub-region.

Hosting the tournament at the Borteyman Sports Complex further demonstrated Ghana’s commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure and positioning the country as a hub for major international sporting events.
