Hong Kong have officially withdrawn from competing in the Pink Ladies Cup in the wake of missile strikes in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
This comes on the back of the UAE getting hit by missile strikes from Iran in retaliation to US-Israeli strikes on Iran this past weekend.
The territory’s women’s football team prior to the withdrawal was competing in the Pink Ladies Cup in Dubai.
Tanzania, Ghana and Russia are competing in the tournament and are yet to announce their withdrawal.
Hong Kong lost their opening game to Ghana 4-0 and were billed to play Tanzania and Russia on March 4 and March 6 respectively.
“Due to the continuously tense situation in the Middle East, the HKFA has formally written to the organisers of the Pink Ladies Cup 2026 that the Hong Kong, China Women’s Representative Team will withdraw from the tournament and will not participate in the remaining matches, with the safety of staff and players as the top priority” a statement from the Football Association of Hong Kong, China read.
Ghana is preparing to compete in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco later this month.
