FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta has been retained in his role after winning the elections held on Sunday, March 15.

Laporta who served as President of the club in the mid 2000’s that culminated in Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League winning triumphs in 2006 and 2009, beat his only opponent Victor Font in the contest.

Font secured almost 30% of the valid votes cast while Laporta secured a little over 68% of the votes to win the contest.

Speaking after winning the elections according to the BBC, Laporta said the club was heading for better days by stating that,

“This is a wonderful club, where the members elect their president and their board of directors. A club unique in the world, truly extraordinary. It makes us unstoppable. No-one will stop us. Exciting years lie ahead. They will be the best of our lives.”
