Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick delivered a raw emotional description of his team’s loss to Newcastle United.

Man United lost 2-1 to the Magpies at the St. James’ Park despite playing against 10 men for the entire second half after Jacob Ramsey’s dismissal for Newcastle.

The loss is the first for Carrick since taking over as interim head coach till the end of the 2025-2026 season; prior to the loss he had an unbeaten record in six games.

However, his fine run came unstuck against Newcastle thanks to William Osula’s brilliant goal in the 90th minute. After watching his side crumble against a relentless Newcastle side, Carrick tipped his hat to the opposing side.

“We knew it would be tough but we navigated the game to a position where we could kick on but we didn’t; Bitterly disappointed really. I don’t think it was the 10 men, we just didn’t play good enough.”

“It was just the quality of the performance, it wasn’t character or wanting to win, it’s easy to throw that just because you don’t win a game of football. Newcastle deserved to win tonight, it hurts me to say that” Carrick said to TNT Sports.
