20 year old England-born Ghanaian defender Benjamin Arthur’s fast start to life at Glasgow Celtic continued after the 20 year old delivered an impressive performance.

Days after making his debut in surprising fashion in a 2-1 win over Aberdeen, the central defender who is on loan from English Premier League side Brentford, delivered a very good performance in Celtic’s 3-1 win over Motherwell in the Scottish League.

Due to a late injury to a teammate, Arthur was informed just 10 minutes before the Aberdeen game that he was going to be a starter.

He followed it up with another strong performance against Motherwell as Celtic (61 points) trail league leaders Hearts by two points with eight games remaining in the season.

6 foot 4 inch Arthur, who is of Ghanaian descent through his father, played out the entire duration in the win over Motherwell and registered seven defensive contributions, four clearances, four recoveries, won all three aerial duels and blocked a shot.

He also completed 74 of 81 pass attempts with 17 of those completions coming inside the opposition half.

Arthur’s emergence comes at a time where Ghana’s central defensive options have been hit by a wave of injuries ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
