In the face of crashing out of the UEFA Champions League, Tottenham Hotspurs managed to grab a morale boosting win.
The London club beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 in the second leg of the round of 16 stage clash but missed out on progressing to the quarterfinals after losing 7-5 on aggregate. Spurs lost 5-2 in the first leg.
Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons, who has come under serious pressure over his performances in his debut season with Spurs, scored twice in the win including a converted penalty in the 90th win.
The win was interim head coach Igor Tudor’s first since replacing Thomas Frank and in his post-game presser, Tudor talked about the positives in the result.
“The sensations are mixed. You don’t like to not get through, but it was a very good performance.”

“It was a beautiful sensation on the pitch with the fans who were really there together with the squad and the team from the first moment.”

“Congratulations to the players. It is positive, commitment, lot of running, lots of good things” Tudor said.
