Liverpool FC goal keeper Alisson Becker was not part of the Reds’ contingent that travelled to Istanbul, Turkey to compete in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 stage first leg clash against Galatasaray.

Galatasaray host Liverpool on Tuesday, March 10 marking the second time this season the teams have played against each other. The return leg takes place at Anfield on Wednesday, March 18.

The Turkish side beat Liverpool 1-0 on September 30 in Istanbul in the group stage of the premier competition but will play at least the first leg of the two legged tie without the Brazilian international.

Alisson per ESPN picked up an injury in training that caused some discomfort and the decision was made to not risk aggravating the issue.

Becker has missed nine games this season through injury and paves the way for Giorgi Mamardashvili to return to the goal after making 10 appearances since joining Liverpool this past offseason.

Should Alisson’s injury persist, he could miss Liverpool’s league tie against Tottenham Hotspurs on Sunday, March 15.
