In an emotional account, she said the 20-year-old footballer had been the family’s main source of support, working tirelessly through his career to provide for them and secure a better future. Now, that hope has been shattered.
“He means everything to me. He was my firstborn, and we did almost everything together, including making decisions. He is very respectful and avoids conflict, something anyone can testify to. Although he is grown, he always listens whenever I advise or caution him” she said.

Frimpong’s death follows an armed robbery attack on the team bus of Berekum Chelsea F.C. on Sunday night, April 12, 2026. The team was returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture against FC Samartex in Samreboi when the incident occurred.
According to club officials, the attackers blocked the road along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso stretch before opening fire on the bus. The driver attempted to reverse to escape, but the gunmen continued shooting, forcing players and staff to flee into nearby bushes for safety.

Frimpong sustained a gunshot wound to the head during the attack. He was rushed to a nearby health facility and was being prepared for transfer for further treatment, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves across Ghana’s football community, raising urgent concerns about the safety of clubs travelling for domestic competitions. The Ghana Football Association has already called for a review of security arrangements to better protect teams on matchday journeys.

Frimpong, who joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January, had made 13 league appearances and scored twice this season. He was widely regarded as one of the club’s emerging talents.
For his family, however, the loss is far more personal. A young life cut short, and a provider gone too soon.
