A former Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has revealed that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year but has successfully undergone surgery.

He shared this according to the BBC in a rare interview where he said that the cancer was detected in April 2025 and he underwent surgery in May.

Hughton is yet to get into active coaching after his dismissal from the head coaching role with Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team, the Black Stars.

Under Hughton, Ghana exited the 2023 AFCON at the group stage where the Black Stars crashed out of the competition without a win after losing 2-1 to Cape Verde and drawing against Mozambique and Egypt.

“The news certainly didn’t scare me. I know everyone is different, but my first impression was ‘I’ll be fine’. I had very good advice and all the treatment options were given to me, and I decided to have my prostate removed.”

“The recovery has gone really well I’m one year post-operation and I feel good. It’s all gone very well. I’ve got a lot of energy” Hughton said.
