Interim head coach of Asante Kotoko, Prince Yaw Owusu, has blamed match officials for his side’s heavy defeat to Medeama SC in the Ghana Premier League.

Kotoko were beaten 4–0 at the TNA Stadium, with former Hearts of Oak midfielder Salim Adams scoring twice in a dominant display for the hosts.

The result adds to a difficult 2025–2026 season for the Porcupine Warriors, who also lost to FC Samartex in their previous outing.

Speaking after the match, Owusu insisted that his tactics and team selection were not responsible for the outcome, pointing instead to officiating decisions as a key factor in the defeat.

“It’s the way Medeama plays, that’s why we came with that set to try to hold up in the middle. I will not that [it cost us the game], the referee cost us [the game]. If he wouldn’t have taken that first goal.”

“There was two fouls, he ignored all of them and then the goal came. Immediately that thing came, they [the players] all dropped out. When they started [the game] we were playing them boot for boot until the situation came that the referee disallowed the foul and the guy took a shot from there [to score]” Prince Owusu said.

In connection to the tragic loss of Berekum Chelsea player Dominic Frimpong following an armed robbery attack on the team bus, Kotoko released a statement commiserating with Berekum Chelsea.
