Santos FC midfielder Neymar has issued an emotional response after being booed by home fans following their 3-2 defeat to Fluminense.
Despite Santos taking the lead twice, the veteran played the full match but faced strong criticism at full time, with sections of the crowd jeering as he left the pitch. He was seen covering his ears in reaction to the reception.
The former FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Al-Hilal forward has been under scrutiny, even with a return of three assists and four goals in nine appearances across all competitions this season.
Santos currently sits 15th in the Brazilian league standings after the loss.
Reacting to the boos on his X (formerly Twitter) page, Neymar expressed his disappointment over the fans’ behavior.
“The day has arrived when I have to explain an EAR SCRATCH! Folks, honestly, you’re going way too hard and crossing the line… it’s just too sad to have to put up with this! No human being can take it” he wrote.
