Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital after falling unwell at Old Trafford shortly before Manchester United’s Premier League match against Liverpool FC on Sunday.

Sources indicated that the move was a precautionary measure and not considered an emergency involving the 84-year-old, who remains one of the most influential figures in the club’s history.

Ferguson, who spent 27 years in charge of Manchester United, had been at the stadium earlier in the day and was seen with guests in the directors’ box a few hours before kick-off. He is a regular presence at matches, continuing to follow the team closely since his retirement.

He was later taken from the stadium to hospital by ambulance after feeling unwell. No further details have been provided regarding his condition following his admission.

Club officials are understood to be optimistic about his recovery and believe he could soon be fit enough to return home.

Ferguson’s health has been a matter of public concern in recent years. In 2018, he suffered a brain haemorrhage that left him seriously ill, prompting widespread support from across the football world. He later spoke publicly about his recovery, offering insight into the challenges he faced during that period.

His appearance at Old Trafford on Sunday had suggested he was continuing his regular involvement with the club. The latest development, however, prompted immediate caution, with medical staff opting to transfer him to hospital for assessment.

Ferguson’s legacy at Manchester United remains unmatched. During his tenure, he oversaw one of the most successful periods in the club’s history, winning numerous domestic and European honours and establishing United as a dominant force in English football.

Since stepping down, he has maintained a visible presence around the club, often attending matches and engaging with players, staff and supporters.

While no official update has been issued on his current condition, the initial assessment that the situation is not serious has provided reassurance to fans and the wider football community.

Further information is expected once medical evaluations are completed.
