Spain and FC Barcelona midfielder Fermín López will miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering a foot injury.
Lopez underwent surgery for a fractured metatarsal sustained in Barcelona’s league game against Real Betis shortly after the club secured the 2025/26 La Liga title.
The midfielder is expected to spend several months recovering, but should be fit in time for next season.
Speaking to Sport, Pedri reflected on his teammate’s injury, his World Cup setback, and his performances during the 2025/26 campaign.
“It’s a blow for everyone. Yesterday I was with him. He was really down. I get on very well with him and I hope he recovers well because he is going to give us a lot both at Barça and in the national team.”

“It’s been a good season. When you win titles you are always satisfied, but it is clear that we have some thorns in our side. On a personal level I’m happy, I’ve had some injuries that I wish hadn’t happened” Pedri said.
