In a matchup between NBA Most Valuable Player contenders Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Wembanyama came out on top.

After losing out on the MVP award to Gilgeous-Alexander, Wembanyama responded with a dominant performance in the Spurs’ 122-115 win in Game One of the Western Conference Finals.

Wembanyama finished the game with 41 points and 24 rebounds in 49 minutes, while teammate Dylan Harper added 24 points and 11 rebounds in 47 minutes as the game went into double overtime.

Speaking after the win, Wembanyama said his focus remains on the series, with Game 2 set for Thursday, May 21.

“We want to win everything, and we have the chance [because we] have people above us in the organization that know how to do that. So far, it looks like they’ve put the right people together to give us a chance. Right now, we’ve got a chance” Wembanyama said.
